Community working together to restore the Plenty River back to good health.

About

Friends of Plenty River Walk is a local community group focused on restoring the environmental values and natural beauty of the Plenty River, known traditionally as Karrum Yallock. Our focal area is a beautiful stretch of the river at the south side of Plenty Gorge Park, near Hamish Court, Greensborough.

We run monthly working bees during the cooler months of the year. Typical activities include planting, spreading mulch, removing rubbish, weed control, and plant propagation. Attending working bees is an opportunity to get to know your neighbours, learn new skills, and contribute to improving our local environment. The group is very friendly and welcoming to new members.

The area is enjoyed by locals and visitors for activities such as walking, cycling, nature photography, and even fishing (not for the faint of heart).

The site is habitat for a wide range of plant and animal species and is even known to be visited occasionally by Platypus and the critically endangered Swift Parrot.

We acknowledge the support of Nillumbik Shire Council for supplying some of the native plants, mulch, tools, and contractor weed control. We have also previously received grant funding from Melbourne Water.
